Radiator Maintenance

Realizing that your vehicle performs great depends on the cooling system you have. One bad thing that can most likely to happen with bad cooling system is overheating. And maintaining
your vehicle’s radiator and cooling system is important for keeping
your car in good working order. So 1) Always make sure that the coolant
is topped up. 2) Keep an eye on the engine temperature. 3) Visually
inspect the system. Look for corrosion or breaks in the radiator cores,
find cracked hoses and rusted clamps, check the gasket on the radiator
cap, and watch for drip stains underneath the car.

Other problems with the cooling system can arise, for various
different reasons, but for basic maintenance and upkeep properly
maintaining the vital fluids in the radiator is what will keep your
vehicle humming with life for years to come. Whether you utilize the
services of your local shop to perform key maintenance and repair
processes or do everything yourself, it is recommended that coolant is
replaced every year or so. Radiator maintenance is mostly about the
fluids. As long as you take car of your vehicle’s cooling system by
partaking in proper radiator maintenance, your vehicle’s radiator will
likely last as long as you own your car.

Engine overheating causes

Internal combustion engines run on heat. Most engines today are designed to operate within a “normal” temperature range of about 195 to 220 degrees F. A relatively constant operating temperature is absolutely essential for proper emissions control, good fuel economy and performance. If the engine overheats and exceeds its normal operating range, the elevated temperatures can cause extreme stress in the cylinder head which may result in a head gasket failure. This, in turn, may lead to a loss of clamping force in critical areas and allow the head gasket to leak. If engine overheats, coolant can boil out of the radiator and be lost.

Overheating can be caused by anything that decreases the cooling system’s ability to absorb, transport and dissipate heat: poor heat conductivity inside the engine because of accumulated deposits in the water jackets, a low coolant level, poor airflow through the radiator,a collapsed lower radiator hose, or even a defective radiator cap. The instant you notice a serious overheat condition, turn off your air conditioner and turn your heater on full blast, and open the windows. Those steps just might save your engine.

How cooling systems work

The job of the cooling system is to take care of the heat generated by the combustion processes. The primary job of the cooling system is to keep the engine from overheating by transferring this heat to the air, but the cooling system also has several other important jobs. And another important job of the cooling system is to allow the engine to heat up as quickly as possible, and then to keep the engine at a constant temperature.

Most modern cars use aluminum radiators. The amount of heat transferred from the fluid running depends on the difference in temperature between the tube and the fluid touching it. So if the fluid that is in contact with the tube cools down quickly, less heat will be transferred. By creating turbulence inside the tube, all of the fluid mixes together, keeping the temperature of the fluid touching the tubes up so that more heat can be extracted, and all of the fluid inside the tube is used effectively. To ensure maximum performance of your vehicle, regular automotive maintenance must be observed.

Car waxing tips

Why not save money and do a little exercise with car waxing.. Few of us wanted to wax their car personally, but that could save you a lot..

Here are simple tips just for you:

* Wash and dry your car thoroughly before waxing.
* Know that some waxes contain abrasives, which can damage clear-coat and lacquer finishes, and may be harmful to dark-colored paint jobs.
* Park the car in a cool, shady spot.
* Dip a damp wax sponge into the car wax, getting a half-dollar-size clump on your sponge.
* Rub the wax onto the car using small circles.
* Working on a section at a time, cover your car’s entire surface, remembering the path you took. By the time you have finished, the wax will be ready to remove.
* Shake out the towel or cloth as you work, in order to avoid wax buildup and streaking.
* Wash your used towels, cloths and pads with liquid fabric softener to keep them from scratching your car the next time you use them.
* Be sure not to damage some of your sensitive engine parts such as the wheel bearings,  fender, etc..

Brake caliper

Disc brakes is part of the brake system that does the actual work of stopping the car. Main components are brake pads, caliper and rotor. One of the most hardworking parts in your vehicle braking system is the brake caliper. The brake caliper is the assembly in your  vehicle which houses both the brake pads and the pistons. Calipers have two types of automotive applications, such as the floating brake caliper which moves moves with respect to the disc and fixed brake caliper which is the type of caliper that does not move relative to the disc.

One of the things to look out for once the floating caliper has been damaged is a reduction in fuel efficiency and excessive wear on the affected pad. Take immediate action once your brake caliper had worn out.
